Disable the reboot prompt after you run Windows Update

How annoying is it when Windows keeps prompting you to reboot your computer after you have installed updates?  It annoys me severely!

Fortunately, there is an easy way to suppress the reboot prompt in Windows Vista.  Here’s how to disable the reboot prompt.

When you first see this prompt to reboot, postpone the reboot by selecting a time to remind you later.

Click on the Windows Vista Start Button and type in “regedit” and click the “OK” button.

In the Registry Editor, navigate to:

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWAE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

Modify the “NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers” DWORD value and set it to 1.  If you don’t have this value, simply right click in the white space and create a new DWORD value and label it “NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers” and give it a value of 1.

Now you won’t get that annoying reboot prompt every 5 seconds after you have installed Windows updates.
