Are you tired of the old, worn out, default faded blue theme Microsoft gives you in Office 2007? I will show you exactly how to easily make it look like this….
Microsoft gives you 3 preinstalled themes with Office 2007:
- Blue (default)
- Silver
- Black (the screenshot from my computer above)
It is very easy to change Office over to a different theme. I will show you how to change this within Word. This process is the same for Excel and/or PowerPoint.
Open Microsoft Word and click the Office Button (the button in the upper left-hand corner) and then click the “Word Options” button on the bottom of the Office menu.
The “Popular” option should be selected by default when the menu opens, but if it isn’t click on it from the left side navigation menu.
Click the drop down arrow for the “Color Scheme” option and you will see all three themes. Select the theme of your choice and click the “OK” button.
My favorite scheme is black. The blue is, well, default and the silver looks too washed out for my taste.
When I changed the color scheme here, it changed the color scheme for all of my Office 2007 programs.
I have seen issues where Outlook will not change themes, even though you changed it within Word or Excel. If your theme didn’t change in Outlook, it is almost the same process.
Open Microsoft Outlook and click on the “New Message” button to create a new message to send.
When the new message screen opens, click on the Office Button to bring up the New Message Menu.
At the bottom of the menu, click on the “Editor Options” button to open the Office Options Menu.
As before, the “Popular” option should be selected by default when the menu opens, but if it isn’t click on it from the left side navigation menu.
Click the drop down arrow for the “Color Scheme” option and you will see all three themes. Select the theme of your choice and click the “OK” button.

my theme looks like windows classic. i dont know whats wrong with it. i try reinstalling it, but nothing happened. I NEED HELP!

My Office has a strange look on the very top menu bar. it changed when I switched to the Windows XP Silver Color Theme, and then when I switched back, it’s stuck… the buttons in the top right corner won’t work either.
This posting was awesome. After much head scratching i could not figure out how to change the color. The Blue was driving me insane. Thank you so much for the posting it has helped so much……MS website needs to be updated.

I love the black scheme but in outlook’s calendar when you specify in an appointment that you will be “out of office” for the event it makes the calendar block purple for that day. this looks awful with all the clean grays and blacks. I cant find out how to change the whole day block, all i can change is the background of the appointment title. thanks for any help, btw this article is great.
@guitardude – It sound like the category of the appointment is defaulting to the purple.
If you go to your calendar and right click on the appointment, you can change the appointment category or you can turn off the category for that appointment. Try that and see if it helps.

@izroil – Microsoft has only added the ability to change between the three colored themes. I don’t know of any other themes that you can install and select.
I NEED SERIOUS HELP! i was undownloading some downloads (i have vista as well) and i exidently undownloaded microsoft office word 2007 (the same 1 u have u put the pictures of it above) and i need serious help on downloading back I DONT WANT THE STUPID 60 DAY TRIAL THING ITS ONLY FOR 60 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!! i only just only want microsoft office word 2007 and i dont know where i can downloaded it from…..and the stupid activation crap plz some1 help meeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!

I opened up a word doc today and my background was black, after some searching I found out how I’m supposed to be able to change it back to blue or silver. However, it isn’t working. It just stays black. Does anyone have any suggestions?
